BOTOX ®

Botulinum Toxin, or BOTOX®, is a purified neurotoxin used to selectively paralyze certain muscles of facial expression in order to dramatically reduce facial lines. It is a highly safe and effective nonsurgical procedure with minimal potential side effects. It is most commonly used in the area between the eyebrows, in the forehead, and in the lateral eye region or "crow's feet" area. Contraction of these facial mimetic muscles can create deep wrinkles and furrows and may be misinterpreted by others as anger, aggression, anxiety or just aging. In either case, selective paralysis of these small muscles alleviate this look and gives a more refreshed soft appearance to the face. It is oftentimes used in combination with other skin treatments and/or fillers to achieve optimal rejuvenation. BOTOX® works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles and only affects the immediate area where injected. Treatment effects vary for different patients but generally last from four to six months.

Candidates for BOTOX® include those with:

• Deep furrows or overly active muscles between the eyebrows
• Horizontal creases on the forehead
• Crow's feet in the lateral eye region
• Platysmal bands or the bands of muscle in front of the neck
• Muscles around the chin and mouth that cause excessive distortion of the overlaying skin
